The art of spending time alone
When I was a teenager I enjoyed constantly being surrounded by my friends. As I have gotten older I have discovered the wonderful regenerative feeling which comes from spending quality time alone. Whether it be a hike, a run or shopping I have come to appreciate and understand the benefits of investing in quality time with myself. This time alone allows me the ability to think, reflect and most importantly learn to be comfortable in my own skin.
I truly believe self love is essential in the ability to give love. If at the end of the day you have nothing left, then you have nothing to give. Especially as I mentally prepare and plan for our baby to arrive this Fall I am keeping a mental checklist of which solo activities bring me the most happiness and leave me feeling the most restored. One such activity for me is hiking. I can go at whatever pace I like and on my way back down take the time to appreciate each wildflower or bird call which catches my attention.
How about you, do you crave alone time? Have a favorite activity you like to do alone? Have you felt the restorative powers of some quality alone time?
