Scenic flight on Kenmore Air

Growing up in Seattle, float planes have always been an integral part of the city. Since Seattle is surrounded by several bodies of water, floatplanes are constantly both seen and heard flying overhead and landing in the water. Every time I'm kayaking out on Lake Union I am able to witness half a dozen planes taking off or landing.  This week I was given the fantastic opportunity to go on a scenic flight with Kenmore Air and see my city from a bird's eye perspective. 

For our scenic flight we took off from Lake Union and quickly made our ascent over the Puget Sound. We flew right past the Space Needle then over West Seattle, along the Duwamish, SODO (where the sports stadiums are), over both I90 and 520 bridges, the University of Washington and then back to Lake Union.

Our pilot, Skip, was friendly and eager to show us the sights of the fair city of Seattle. Ironically, all five passengers onboard our scenic flight were from Seattle which proves this is not an activity solely reserved for tourists. Actually, I found it extra special to be able to see a place I've known for years, but with new eyes. As a West Seattle resident, one of my favorite parts was flying over Alki Beach and spotting all the spots I know and love.
