A modern home in South Iceland
When planning our third trip to Iceland we knew we wanted to do things a little differently this time around. On our first trip to Iceland we spent ten days driving around the entire country. On our second trip, we made a quick stop over in Iceland before heading onto Amsterdam and Paris. This time we knew we wanted a home base to spend several days in one place. Since we were traveling abroad with a toddler for the first time we were uncertain how jet lag would treat him. The thought of a small hotel room while a toddler adjusted to a new time zone was not appealing. During my search for houses to stay in, I came across this beautifully modern home. At first glance, the covered outdoor space, idyllic location and wrap around deck immediately grabbed my attention. In addition, the house had three bedrooms which meant Jasper would be able to nap or go to bed early while we stayed up and enjoyed the sauna, hot tub or just relaxed.
This deck was the perfect place for Jasper to play with his cars, run up and down and bounce his ball. No matter the weather he never tired of spending time outside on the deck.
Breakfasts were kept pretty simple with fresh fruit, juice, yogurt, cereal, toast and omelettes.
I loved all the white walls and the consistent color palette throughout the space, it made me want to go home and do the very same thing.
The master bedroom was very roomy and there was plenty of closet space so we could store our things out of sight when they were not in use.
The kitchen and dining area opened up to living room, so I never felt like I was missing out on any of the fun while I prepared meals.
The kitchen had both an eating bar and a dining table. I really liked the versatility of having multiple places to eat throughout the day.
The second and third bedrooms were thoughtfully appointed and had comfortable beds.
I loved the fact that the house had five doors that went to the outside. In the living area alone there were three doors which opened up to various parts of the deck and allowed you to feel like you were outside even when you were inside.
The outdoor shower, hot tub and BBQ were welcome additions to the side deck area.
Having our very own sauna felt like a big luxury after a long day of exploring.
Upon arrival, the house was everything I imagined and more. An outdoor shower, a sauna and even a washer and dryer. The proximity of the house to the Golden Circle and other outdoor attractions made for a variety of easy day trips. Elin, the owner was a dream to coordinate with and we were able to figure out everything through email prior to us arriving. One of the things I enjoy most about staying in a vacation home is the ability to live like a local. On our first day we went to the local grocery store and stocked up on the essentials. The beautiful packaging alone made me excited to cook breakfast the next morning. There was so much to see and do nearby, but it was also lovely being able to spend time in such a beautiful home amidst such stunning scenery. I definitely see a return trip here next time we are in Iceland.
