Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort
"Weekends are for adventures!" is our family motto. As a family we love to be on the go, visit both new and familiar places and most importantly take advantage of this season of our lives. Over the past several years, we have discovered just how much diversity exists within a three to four hour radius of where we live. We have quickly realized in order to have fun as a family we do not have to buy expensive plan tickets or deal with crowds and lines, we simply hop in our car and within a couple hours we are some place new and different. A change of scenery, even for a night or two is always welcome in our family. As parents, we also firmly believe in exposing our children to as many different environments and places as we can in an effort to create well rounded, flexible, and interesting people.
Last weekend, we headed east of the mountains to Leavenworth to stay at one of our favorite places in Washington- Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort. We love Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort because it possesses all the things we look for in accommodations: natural beauty, being able to get away from it all, space to spread out and run around, delicious food and excellent proximity to hiking and other outdoor activities.
Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort offers a Great Escape Package which makes planning a weekend getaway a breeze. Included in the package is a gourmet dinner and hearty breakfast as well as access to all their amenities including their woodland rock hot pool and sauna. No need to worry about packing food, where you are going to have your next meal or whether you will have to wait a long time for a table. You can easily spend a weekend never setting foot off this property because there are walking trails, a beautiful garden, access to the river and more food than your stomach will ever have room to enjoy.
The menu at Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort changes daily, but on this particular evening there was a melody of sautéed vegetables, steak, grouper and garlic mashed potatoes. In addition, there were soups, salad and desserts to round out your meal.
The dining area is spacious, but cozy with plenty of warm tones, wood and large windows.
When desserts are miniature they have no calories right?!
This time we stayed in an Alcove room with a view of the garden in the distance. The alcove makes for the perfect spot to sit and read books and watch the birds outside. Our son loved it so much it has me contemplating putting a window seat in at our home.
The first thing Jasper likes to do when he wakes up is read his books.
During our entire visit the weather was lovely and the sun was shining. Often when we grow tired of the Seattle rain we find ourselves east of the mountains to get a little Vitamin D.
Breakfast was hearty and filled with all those special weekend treats like homemade scones, fresh squeezed juices, bacon and scrambled eggs with ham.
After breakfast at the Kingfisher Restaurant we headed down to the river for rock and pinecone tossing. It was thrilling to see the pinecones caught up in the current and zoom down the river. We could have easily spent several hours here. Once you have a child you quickly realize it is the simple things which fill their hearts with delight.
When traveling with kids you never know what they are going to enjoy the most. This time the wagon used to transport our luggage from our car was the big hit. Jasper could have easily been pulled all around the entire property in it. As he beamed ear to ear I could tell he felt like a V.I.P. riding in it.
Since it was Easter weekend rather than go on a hike we decided to do an egg hunt for Jasper in the garden. Between the breathtaking backdrop of the snow capped mountains and the sunshine it felt pretty much like perfection. Now we just have another excuse to come back in a couple months and visit because many of these trails are amongst some of our favorite in the entire state.
