A weekend at Lake Patterson with Sun Mountain Lodge
In an effort to take a break from our busy schedules we headed to our favorite place in Washington state- the North Cascades for some much needed R & R. We stayed in a one bedroom cabin on Lake Patterson and enjoyed a quiet and restful weekend. We hiked, played in the water, hung out and celebrated thirteen years of marriage in addition to Father's Day. Although we have stayed at Sun Mountain Lodge in the past, we have never stayed in these particular cabins. We had such a fantastic time I cannot wait to come back in the Winter to see it covered in a blanket of snow and to go ice fishing.
With a busy young child we appreciated the large grassy open spaces at Lake Patterson, just perfect for baseball, tag or soccer. By day we could rent a paddle boats or play in the water and by night we roasted marshmallows by the fire and looked at the night sky. Since the cabins are a part of Sun Mountain Lodge we still had easy access to the hotel's restaurant, pool, hot tub and common areas as any guest of the hotel would.

There is nothing more quintessentially Summer than s'mores over an open fire.
Each cabin has a full kitchen, dining area, bathroom, bedroom(s), living room and murphy bed. In addition, the kitchen was fully stocked with dishes, cups, silverware and pots and pans. In particular, Jasper just loved the "secret bed" because he had never seen a murphy bed before.
Since having a child it is so nice and convenient to have a kitchen where we stay. I don't think Jasper is in the minority to eat multiple snacks throughout the day and having food readily available is so much nicer than having to search it out. During our stay, it was so nice to be able to run back to the cabin in the middle of the day for popsicles or nap time.

Even though most of the cabins were full during our entire stay the property never felt crowded or too busy.

One of our favorite things about the North Cascades is the easy access to so many hiking trails. Since it was still early in the hiking season and many trails are still covered in snow we visited one of our favorite easy hikes- Cutthroat Lake.
I am proud to report, Jasper was able to hike almost the entire trail by himself this year. There is nothing more invigorating or binding than having fun together as a family doing something we all enjoy.
A perfectly calm morning at Lake Patterson.
One of the great things about the cabins at Lake Patterson is how there is a variety of accommodation options. There are smaller one bedroom cabins which can sleep four to five people to three bedroom cabins which can accommodate half a dozen people. I can tell why it is a popular spot for family reunions, wedding and weekend getaways alike.
It was so nice to be able to prepare lunch or dinner, while having the front door open and hear the sound of Jasper and Cameron laughing together. This way I was always able to feel a part of things and having a beautiful lake to look out at was truly the icing on the cake.
One evening, we took the short drive to Sun Mountain Lodge to watch the sunset. We were rewarded with a sun drenched walk through beautiful fields of wildflowers and saw the most epic sunset.
If you are craving some time away with the ones you love might I suggest a stay at Sun Mountain Lodge and in particular the cabins at Lake Patterson. It is the perfect blend of comfort, peace and quiet and adventure. You are within a short drive to so many amazing hiking trails and once you are there it is easy to forget the cares of the world.
