Weekend at Sleeping Lady Resort
The first weekend in February, we planned a trip to Sleeping Lady Resort in Leavenworth, WA. Although we typically visit Leavenworth multiple times a year, visiting in the Winter was a new experience for us. We have enjoyed staying at Sleeping Lady Resort a couple of times before, so we knew what level of service, gourmet food and tranquility we could expect. As the date drew closer I realized it coincided with Super Bowl weekend. Between the Super Bowl and it being the off season we had a feeling we might have the place to ourselves.
Upon check in we spotted a bowl of Skittles at the reception desk and quickly realized Hawk fever was ever present at Sleeping Lady Resort too. As we entered our room we were delighted to see the beautiful vaulted ceilings, a warm inviting color palette and the wonderful addition of alcove beds. The rooms are spacious enough that you never feel cramped, but cozy enough you feel like you have escaped into your own little world. The decor is rustic, yet inviting and the sheets on these beds are some of nicest I have ever slept between.
Staying at the Sleeping Lady Resort is a unique experience. They offer a wonderful selection of packages to choose from. During our stay we enjoyed the Great Escape Package which includes both a gourmet dinner and hearty breakfast in the Kingfisher Restaurant. Pairing a wonderful hike either before or after such a substantial meal makes me feel a little less guilty for indulging in all the goodness.
A couple days before we arrived there was a significant amount of snowfall which blanketed the grounds and helped to make it all the more magical of a getaway. Snow is really such a wonderful treat for us Seattlelites! The rooms are grouped in clusters around the property of Sleeping Lady Resort, which make it feel more like your own private cabin the woods.
The location of Sleeping Lady Resort is idyllic. The mountains surround you and Icicle Creek runs directly through the property. The property boasts a rock pool, sauna, play barn, library and an organic garden which grows many of the fruit and vegetables for the Kingfisher restaurant. When you visit in the Winter it is a completely different experience than the warmth of Summer or the breathtaking beauty of the Fall. To really enjoy this property and its amenities to the fullest I highly recommend visiting once during each season.
In the Summer, I love walking through the garden to see what might end up on my plate. In the Fall, the foliage creeps up the mountainsides in swathes of color. In the Winter, I love to enjoy a relaxing meal by the roaring fireplace or cozy up with a good book in the library.
A remarkable investment Sleeping Lady Resort has made is in its artwork. There are beautiful pieces scattered throughout the property which offer a unique cultural experience in the mountains. Brochures are available to educate and encourage further exploration of these thoughtful art installations.
At Sleeping Lady Resort the grounds were thoughtfully designed and impeccably maintained. On property, there are numerous places to enjoy like the Aspen Leaf Spa, O'Grady's Pantry and bike, ski and snowshoe rental. There are endless places to explore in the surrounding areas from an afternoon shopping around Leavenworth, taking a run down the river or going on an excellent day hike. A stay at Sleeping Lady Resort will relax you and allow you to enjoy nature at your own pace and in your own style.
