Seattle Bloggers Unite Field Trip: Trophy Cupcakes
This past week I was fortunate to attend Seattle Bloggers Unite inaugural field trip. For our first field trip we spent an enjoyable, informative and delicious evening at Trophy Cupcakes with owner, Jennifer Shea. Jennifer took us through the process of how to make the perfect buttercream, how to hand frost, use piping bags and create that signature Trophy swirl. Like most creative endeavors, between practice and perseverance she was able to make things look easy to us onlookers. We were impressed with the ease in which Jennifer was able to frost, chat and look so stylish. Jennifer has that rare combination of beauty, brains, talent and style. Any woman who's motto is "Make Everyday a Party" is a woman after my own heart!
After Jennifer's instruction we were let loose to try our hand at cupcake decorating. Quickly, we realized cupcake decorating is not as easy as it might seem and that signature swirl or ruffle takes a little practice before you can get it perfect on the first, second or third try.
Throughout the evening, Jennifer was on hand to coach us through the process, give tips and even sign her book Cupcake and Parties!
When you get a room full of bloggers together there will inevitably be a lot of picture taking, instagramming and oohing and aaahing!! Every time Jennifer did anything I wanted to say "cameras up". It was pretty hilarious to watch everyone in sync with their phones or cameras and actually reminded me of my recent visit to see the Mona Lisa.
The best part of the Seattle Bloggers Unite group is the opportunity to meet lots of lovely and inspiring ladies like Rose from Our Lady of Second Helpings. You will have to check out her blog where she discusses healthy living and how she lost a whopping 145 lbs. or basically the equivalent of another person. Way to go Rose!!
One of four cupcake stations where we were able to try our hand at decorating a different style of cupcake.
Sugar flowers and Kristi hand rolling a cupcake to create an apple for Teacher Appreciation week.
At the end of the nigh, each attendee was able to take home a box of the four different cupcakes they had created. Creating the ruffle was definitely one of my favorites and that apple was too cute for words.
