Shopping in Amsterdam
This Spring we had the opportunity to visit the wonderful city of Amsterdam. I instantly feel in love with its charm, like something out of a fairytale. I enjoyed taking a boat through it many waterways, walking over its many bridges, looking out as a pedestrian for its many bicycles and photographing its unique buildings. One of the things I really loved about Amsterdam was it fantastic shopping.
There is the main shopping/touristy area called the Nine Streets, where you can find a little bit of everything from local shops to large American chains. But I found I enjoyed shopping along some of the quieter streets where oftentimes you were able to have the place to yourself. Here are some of my favorites:
Number Nine: Hands down we spent the most time in here as it is both a men's and women's store. They have great brands both American and foreign. I really liked Numph clothing line, while Cameron found the Penfield jackets to fit his frame perfectly.
Black Sheep Road: I loved the aesthetics of this store. Everything was laid out thoughtfully and it was a fun place to look around.
Property Of: Great ambience and customer service. Like many other stores in Amsterdam they offer you a drink while you shop. It is such a friendly way to say "you're here, we care and we want you to stay awhile" I wished stores did this in the US. Property Of specializes in quality bags from leather to waxed canvas and minimalist electronic device covers.
Amsterdam Bag Company or A.B.C. has the most delightful little pops of color hanging from their storefront window. Once inside you will love their trendy, functional bags. The only hard part is deciding which size and color(s) to buy.
Porto Novo: An Italian men's clothing store with quality slim fitting shirts. I especially loved their tag line "For all adventurers on a daily basis"
Il Goede Soet: After a full day of walking and shopping you create quite an appetite and a stop at a local chocolate shop is a good place for a boost of energy. Il Goede Soet is one of the best local chocolate shops we could find.
Puccini Bomboni: Another one of our favorite chocolate shops. We enjoyed our chocolates so much we went back and ordered the same thing all over again. They package them up so cute, these would make a lovely gift or souvenir for the long plane ride home.
